The Ontario Superior Court of Justice released a decision earlier this week certifying the class proceeding in Metro Taxi Ltd. et al v. City of Ottawa. The successful certification motion was argued by Conway lawyers, Thomas Conway, Colin Baxter, Ben Grant and Julie Mouris, acting for the proposed representative plaintiffs. The representative plaintiffs claim damages against the City of Ottawa on behalf of 768 taxi license holders and 4 taxi brokers in the City of Ottawa. The context of the claim is the regulation of the taxi industry in Ottawa and the operation of Uber in Ottawa beginning in 2014. Colin Baxter is quoted in an article about the decision originally published by The Lawyer’s Daily (www.thelawyersdaily.ca), part of LexisNexis Canada Inc.
